US citizens can apply for an Azerbaijan ASAN e-Visa. The usual permission allows one entry and a stay of up to 30 days within its 90-day validity. Prepare your application using the US passport book you intend to travel with; a US passport card is not interchangeable with the book for international air travel.
Use your US passport book for the application
The US Department of State describes the passport card as a wallet-sized document with limited travel uses and confirms that it cannot be used for international air travel. Its usefulness as identity evidence in other circumstances does not make it the passport book needed for an Azerbaijan trip by air.
If both documents are available, look at the book while preparing the application. Do not copy details from whichever document is nearest or easiest to photograph. Identify the intended travel document and prepare its identification page and fields consistently.
This distinction is relevant before payment or submission. If the traveller does not yet have the document intended for the visit, explain that during review rather than substitute a different identity document to finish a request. An ASAN application should describe the actual passport that will be used for Azerbaijan.
Citizenship is different from residence in the United States
The official eligibility list includes the United States of America as a nationality. A US resident travelling on another country's passport needs that nationality and document assessed. A US address, domestic identity card or payment method does not by itself establish US citizenship for an ASAN application.
Conversely, a US citizen organising the trip from abroad can still be applying with a US passport. Identify the traveller's document rather than infer nationality from the place where an enquiry originates. If another person organises the visit, keep their details separate from the applicant's identity fields.
For a dual national, choose the passport for Azerbaijan before completing the file. ASAN requires the nationality selection to correspond to the travel document and considers the visa invalid if a different document is used for travel. An emergency or non-national document also needs its actual category established before an ordinary-passport service is ordered.
Check what the book actually says
Enter names, birth details, passport number and document dates using the current book and the electronic form's instructions. A previous travel profile may contain an older number or an abbreviated name. Compare it against the passport rather than treat a familiar saved entry as definitive.
ASAN requires passport validity extending at least three months beyond the e-Visa expiry date. Use the intended visa period to make that comparison; a calculation only from the holiday's return does not use the specified reference. If passport replacement is pending, resolve the document choice before submission.
Identify any name or identity field you are unsure about and check the application's instructions. Resolve the question against the passport before submission rather than guess an answer simply to complete the record.
Use the correct identification-page image
Attach a readable image of the selected book's identification page. Open the saved version and check whether the number, names, photograph and dates are visible. Do not rely solely on a preview that hides glare or missing information at an edge.
ASAN identifies an unreadable passport photo-page attachment as a rejection ground. A card image or an organiser's typed summary should not be treated as a substitute for the page being requested. Follow the actual form rather than assemble a broad checklist of unrelated identity papers.
Before filing, compare the fields and attachment together. If they show different numbers, determine why using the travel passport. Simply changing one private record to match another can preserve a mistake where both were taken from the wrong source.
Keep the visa's limits visible in the itinerary
The 90-day validity period and stay of up to 30 days are separate. The visit must remain within validity, including when arrival is planned close to expiry. Read the intended arrival and departure together instead of assuming 30 days always follow any arrival within the window.
The e-Visa is single-entry. Unused days after a short visit do not permit another arrival on the same document. If a plan includes leaving and returning, have that need considered before relying on one application. The basic ASAN questions explain the distinction without adding a multiple-entry electronic option.
Where a visa is granted, inspect its actual identity information and conditions before preparing the printout. Carry the checked e-Visa with the application passport. If something is inconsistent, establish the supported next step; privately changing a PDF does not correct an official permission.
Choose the service with an accurate file ready
ASAN's official Standard processing takes three working days. Its official Urgent processing takes three hours, including non-working days and holidays.
