Maltese passport holders can apply for an Azerbaijan ASAN e-Visa for a suitable short visit. The ordinary permission allows one entry and up to 30 days of stay within a 90-day validity window. When planning or changing a journey, compare arrival and departure with the actual visa instead of treating its longer validity as an unrestricted period of travel or stay.
Check both arrival and departure dates
Begin with the intended arrival in Azerbaijan and the expected departure. Have the relevant accommodation and contact information ready as requested by the application. Read the whole booking if connections place arrival on a different calendar date from the beginning of the journey.
The application describes an intended visit; the issued permission supplies the dates that actually need checking before travel. A reservation can help prepare the request, but it cannot determine or amend an official visa's printed validity. Keep that distinction in view if transport is rearranged after the form has been completed.
For Standard, ASAN's conditions set a start day at least three working days after submission; Urgent validity begins on issue. Inspect the eventual document rather than assume that all applications have the same starting relationship to the traveller's preferred arrival.
Departure has two limits to satisfy
The maximum stay and the end of validity are separate constraints. A proposed stay can be shorter than 30 days yet still run beyond the final visa date if arrival is late in the validity window. Conversely, being inside a 90-day window does not permit a stay longer than the stated allowance.
This matters when a booking changes. A later departure may remain within the printed expiry but increase the stay beyond the permitted length. A later arrival may shorten the usable portion of the visa without moving its end. Review both directions of change rather than checking only the new arrival.
Use the actual permission for the final comparison. If the revised plan does not fit, obtain the appropriate instructions before relying on the existing e-Visa. Updating a consultant's itinerary or a booking account does not extend the authority's document.
Count a return as another entry question
A journey that leaves Azerbaijan and comes back is not simply a longer version of one continuous visit. The normal ASAN e-Visa is single entry. Remaining dates after departure do not make the used permission reusable, even where the combined time planned in Azerbaijan is brief.
ASAN permits a new electronic application only after leaving Azerbaijan. Raise the return plan during preparation instead of assuming that another application while still inside will automatically arrange it. The purpose of the check is to establish what the whole journey needs before individual bookings are relied upon.
Keep the scope of the visit accurate as well. The electronic visa does not authorise paid employment. A short duration alone cannot make every activity appropriate for the ordinary electronic route, so describe any uncertain purpose when requesting a suitability assessment.
A changed plan can expose a passport question
ASAN requires the passport to remain valid for at least three months after the e-Visa expires. The reference is the visa end, not the end of a holiday. Our passport-validity FAQ explains that comparison. Check the intended document before filing rather than assuming that a short stay requires only a small amount of remaining validity.
If the passport will be renewed before travel, settle the replacement first and use its identification page and details consistently. An e-Visa issued against an earlier number should not be assumed to move automatically. A document change after issue needs the relevant instructions, even if the travel dates stay unchanged.
For dual nationality, select the country corresponding to the passport used for Azerbaijan. ASAN regards the permission as invalid when the application document differs from the travel document. Temporary, emergency or non-national categories need their own suitability answer; Malta's list entry does not establish acceptance of every document associated with the country.
Prepare a file that supports the itinerary
Read the passport name, number, nationality and dates directly from the document. Check the completed fields against it and inspect the saved identification-page attachment. ASAN warns that unreadable photo-page evidence leads to rejection, so replace glare, blur or cropped information before submission.
Use an email address that will be monitored for the actual outcome. If someone else manages the application, agree how the issued document will reach the traveller. Keeping the correspondence accessible is useful when a later schedule change makes another comparison necessary.
ASAN publishes Standard issue within three working days and Urgent within three hours, including holidays and non-working days for Urgent. Submission must be at least the corresponding period before arrival. Leave time for private review, payment and inspection of the result in addition to official assessment.
