Latvian citizens qualify for Azerbaijan's ASAN e-Visa with an appropriate travel document and visit. One condition deserves a separate calculation: the passport must remain valid for at least three months after the e-Visa expires. The reference is the visa's expiry, not simply the departure from Azerbaijan. Establish that relationship before submitting an application or deciding that passport renewal can wait.
Compare your passport expiry with the e-Visa dates
Identify the proposed departure from Azerbaijan, the relevant e-Visa expiry and the passport expiry. The first tells you when the visit is expected to end; the second defines the end of the electronic permission's validity; the third tells you how long the identity document lasts. They are related, but they answer different questions.
The usual ASAN e-Visa has 90 days of validity and permits up to 30 days of stay within it. A short holiday can finish well before the permission expires. Comparing passport expiry only with that holiday end therefore leaves part of the official condition unchecked.
Our passport-validity FAQ states the same reference point. Use it to frame the question when discussing an application with a helper: how does the passport compare with the visa end date? A general assurance that it has several months left is less useful than the actual dates.
A hypothetical comparison shows the difference
Suppose an e-Visa expires on 30 September. The three-month reference then reaches 30 December. A passport expiring before that point does not meet the stated condition simply because a short visit ends earlier in September. This example illustrates the reference date; it does not predict the dates that will appear on a particular application.
Read the intended visa period carefully before filing and inspect the actual issued dates afterwards. Avoid replacing a three-month condition with an improvised number of days or a calculation from an unrelated travel booking. Where a real date comparison is uncertain, obtain clarification rather than selecting a convenient interpretation.
The same comparison should be made separately for companions. People travelling on one itinerary can hold passports with quite different expiry dates. A successful check for the lead applicant does not establish that every document in a family or group meets the condition.
Resolve the document before final data entry
If renewal is needed, settle the passport intended for the journey before completing the official application. Use the replacement's own number, dates and identification-page image. Combining a new number with an earlier scan creates a mismatch even when both documents belong to the same person.
If renewal is only being considered, make a clear decision before filing. ASAN requires the application travel document to match the document used for the journey. An e-Visa linked to an older passport should not be assumed to transfer automatically, and a private customer-profile update cannot change that official link.
For temporary, emergency or non-national documents, establish suitability independently of the expiry calculation. A document can last long enough without necessarily being the appropriate category for an ordinary-passport application. Latvia's presence on the nationality list is not a decision on every document issued there.
Check the evidence, not just the arithmetic
Prepare a readable copy of the chosen passport's identification page. Inspect the saved file for a clear expiry date as well as the photograph, names and number. A correct calculation written in an enquiry does not help if the attached page conceals the date that the issuing system needs to read.
ASAN states that an unreadable photo-page attachment leads to rejection. Replace blurred, cropped or reflective evidence before official submission. If someone else prepares the file, compare the final attachment and entered dates yourself so that an old image is not selected from a saved folder by mistake.
Use the actual passport for nationality and identity information. Latvian residence should not be entered as Latvian citizenship for a holder of another national passport. A person with more than one nationality must select the country corresponding to the travel document intended for Azerbaijan.
Leave room for document preparation in the timetable
Official Standard issue is within three working days; Urgent issue is within three hours regardless of holidays and non-working days. Apply at least the corresponding period before arrival. These published periods begin with the official application, after any passport decision, private review and payment arrangements.

Selecting the faster option cannot add months to a passport or remove the matching-document requirement. Decide whether the document is suitable before paying for a timetable.

Keep the visa's other limits in the final comparison
When the outcome is available, read any issued e-Visa against the passport and latest itinerary. Check identity details, validity dates, permitted stay and entry count. Print the issued document and carry it with the matching passport; a payment acknowledgement is not the permission itself.
Departure must fit both the 30-day stay limit and final visa date. Single entry also remains single entry when unused dates are left: a departure and return requires separate consideration. Correct passport arithmetic is one necessary check, not a replacement for reading the whole permission granted.
