Costa Rican citizens are included on Azerbaijan’s official ASAN e-Visa list. Eligible passport holders can prepare a suitable short-visit application online. The normal permission provides single entry and up to 30 days of stay within 90 days of validity. Plan to obtain and inspect the actual issued document, rather than treating an application receipt as the end of the process.
Know the difference between updates and an issued e-Visa
An enquiry to a private consultant, an application acknowledgement, a payment message and an issued e-Visa describe different stages. Keep their meanings separate. A message confirming receipt of a request does not establish that the authority has granted permission.
ASAN sends application, payment and decision notifications to the email entered in the form. Check that address carefully and use one that will be monitored. If another person helps, agree how the actual outcome and any issued document will reach the traveller.
When a visa is issued, open it and compare the passport details. Read the dates, permitted stay and entry count together before relying on it for the journey. ASAN requires a printout to be presented with the travel document. A receipt or private service confirmation cannot replace that issued permission.
Prepare a passport file that the result can match
Use the passport intended for Azerbaijan as the source of nationality, name, number and dates. Read the requested fields from the identification page and follow the form’s instructions. A travel profile or previous application may still contain an older passport number.
Where multiple passports are held, select the country corresponding to the document chosen for Azerbaijan. Keep that document throughout the application and journey. ASAN’s conditions make the e-Visa invalid where the application document differs from the one used for travel.
Residence in Costa Rica does not establish Costa Rican nationality for another person’s passport. Check a companion’s actual document in the ASAN eligible-country directory. Identify emergency, temporary or non-national travel documents expressly, rather than assuming the country listing establishes acceptance of every category.
Inspect the evidence before submitting
Prepare a readable identification-page image and open the saved file. Check the photograph, names, number and dates for blur, cropping or reflections. Inspect the version being uploaded, especially if it has been shared or compressed since the original photograph was taken.
ASAN states that an unreadable attached photo page leads to rejection. Correct typing cannot compensate for evidence the issuing system cannot read. Replace a poor copy before official submission instead of expecting a later request for clarification to solve it.
Prepare accurate intended arrival, accommodation and contact information as appropriate to the form. If a field is unclear, seek instructions rather than inventing a substitute identity detail. Review the completed file against the current passport before submitting the official application.
Calculate the passport condition from the visa end
The passport must remain valid for at least three months after the e-Visa expires. Do the calculation from that electronic expiry, not just from the last day of a short holiday. The visa may remain valid after the intended visit, so the two references can produce different results.
If a passport replacement is planned before travel, settle it before preparing the application. Do not upload the earlier booklet while entering replacement details. A visa issued against the earlier number should not be assumed to transfer automatically to the new passport.
If a replacement or error affects an existing application, obtain instructions before using the permission. A corrected booking or consultancy customer record is not an amendment to the official e-Visa. Keep the travel document and permission consistent at the final check as well as at submission.
Read validity, stay and entry count together
The usual ASAN e-Visa is valid for 90 days and permits a maximum stay of 30 days within those dates. The 90-day window is not a 90-day visit allowance. Departure must satisfy both the stay limit and the final validity date printed on the permission.
Single entry means that leaving Azerbaijan and returning needs separate consideration. Unused dates do not provide another entry on the same visa. ASAN allows a new electronic application only after leaving Azerbaijan; another payment while still inside should not be assumed to provide an automatic return arrangement.
Check revised travel dates against the actual document if a connection or departure changes. The reservation does not change the visa’s start or end. Describe the proposed activity honestly too: the electronic visa does not authorise paid employment.
Allow for preparation and official assessment
ASAN publishes Standard issue within three working days and Urgent issue within three hours regardless of holidays and non-working days. Applications must be made at least those corresponding periods before arrival. Leave time to review the result rather than planning only for the act of paying.
