Canadian citizens travelling on eligible Canadian passports can apply for an Azerbaijan ASAN e-Visa. The Azerbaijani Embassy in Ottawa states that Canadian Travel Documents are not accepted for this service. Check which document you hold before submitting a request, particularly if it was issued in Canada but is not a Canadian national passport.
Which Canadian travel documents are suitable for ASAN?
The embassy's ASAN page says only Canadian passport holders are eligible under its Canadian guidance and warns Canadian Travel Document holders not to purchase an e-Visa. That distinction is important for a person who has lawful Canadian residence or a Canadian-issued document but is not travelling on an eligible national passport.
Do not select Canada as citizenship merely to make the application proceed. A permanent-resident card is not a Canadian passport. Where a non-national travel document is involved, ask the competent Azerbaijani authority about recognition and the appropriate route; an online nationality entry does not settle the issue.
For a temporary, emergency or other unusual document, obtain express confirmation of ASAN suitability before payment. An eligible-country entry alone does not establish acceptance of every document issued by that country.
Calculate passport validity
ASAN requires at least three months of passport validity after the e-Visa expires. The normal electronic visa has a 90-day validity period, which is distinct from its permitted stay. Calculate from the actual visa end date rather than only the day a short holiday finishes.
Choose a stay that fits the actual permission
The ordinary ASAN single-entry visa permits up to 30 days of stay within a 90-day validity window. A reference to 30 days should not be interpreted as the whole electronic validity period, and the 90-day window is not a three-month stay allowance. Inspect the start date, expiry, permitted stay and entries on the issued document.
One entry does not cover leaving for another country and returning during the same validity window. Check a multi-country itinerary before buying transport. ASAN's conditions say a new electronic application is made after leaving Azerbaijan; do not assume that a second purchase while still inside solves a further-entry or longer-stay question.
An e-Visa does not authorise paid employment. A business meeting, paid assignment and extended course are not interchangeable purposes. Establish the correct activity and route before applying under a short-visit category for convenience.
Prepare information that matches the passport
Use a readable identification-page copy and compare all entered identity details against the passport itself. Keep intended arrival, accommodation and contact information accurate. An old scan or an agent's customer profile should not override the current document.
Private assistance and the final travel check
Before offering a service, our team checks whether the actual document can use the proposed route. A Canadian Travel Document must not be channelled into an ordinary electronic package. Any available scope and payment are clarified before the agreed service starts, and the authority's result is communicated; the consultancy does not decide document recognition or visa issue.
ASAN describes three working days for standard issue and three hours for urgent issue after successful official submission. The private enquiry and review precede filing. Neither an urgent package nor document checking guarantees approval or admission.
Prepare the Canadian passport copy
For a suitable Canadian national passport, prepare the identification-page copy before entering the form. Make sure the photograph is clear and the number, names and dates remain legible in the saved image. The issuing system can reject an application if the attached page cannot be read. A photograph of a closed booklet or a Canadian residence card does not provide the requested passport page.
Compare the entered details directly with the passport rather than with a booking profile. An earlier passport number may still appear in a frequent-flyer account or an old application. If you have renewed, work from the replacement document throughout and do not mix its scan with the previous passport's details.
Standard or urgent: decide when the file is ready
ASAN publishes three working days for standard assessment and three hours for urgent assessment, with the urgent period applying regardless of holidays and non-working days. Those periods concern the official application. They do not start when a customer first asks a private consultancy a question.

An urgent package does not make a Canadian Travel Document eligible for ordinary Canadian-passport ASAN processing. It also does not replace a missing scan or guarantee approval. Settle the document question before deciding which timetable to buy.
Keep the decision separate from the receipt
Monitor the email used for the application. ASAN sends notifications there, including information about issue or refusal. Retain the issued e-Visa itself and inspect it against the passport; a payment receipt alone is not travel permission.
Print the issued document and carry it with the matching passport. If the passport or plans change, obtain instructions before relying on the old permission. If the authority refuses the application, read the stated grounds rather than assuming another payment will resolve the matter. ASAN states that its payments are not refunded on refusal; any private service terms should be explained separately before purchase.
