Citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina travelling for tourism on ordinary passports may qualify for Azerbaijan’s temporary visa exemption. The country also remains on the ASAN e-Visa list for suitable visits that require a visa. From 1 August 2026 to 1 August 2027, the published exemption allows three entries in one year, each for up to 30 days. A fourth entry requires a valid visa. First establish whether the intended visit is exempt before requesting a paid e-Visa application.
Check the dates of the temporary visa exemption
Read the intended Azerbaijan arrival alongside the measure’s start and end. Check the intended departure as well, particularly when the stay approaches the end of the published period. Do not assume that a later trip remains exempt simply because an earlier visit was covered.
The published ASAN note also limits the number of visa-free entries. Keep a record of the dates of previous entries relevant to the scheme. Where the history is uncertain, establish it before paying for an application or relying on another exempt entry.
The source describes three entries “in one year”. It does not provide a detailed counting method in the short note. Do not assume the allowance resets on 1 January or invent another reset date. A traveller whose history makes that interpretation material should seek confirmation from the competent Azerbaijani authority.
Understand what three entries allow
The measure permits up to 30 days on each qualifying entry. It does not combine the allowances into a single uninterrupted 90-day visit. Check the length of the actual proposed stay, not only how many visits have been made.
The fourth entry requires a valid visa under the published note. A brief first, second or third stay does not create an unlimited supply of additional entries. Count entries and days separately before deciding whether the electronic application route is needed.
The published end is 1 August 2027. No automatic renewal is assumed. For travel near or beyond that date, check the rule applicable to the intended visit. If the planned visit straddles a boundary that the short note does not explain, obtain an official answer instead of supplying an unsupported interpretation.
ASAN listing and exemption can coexist
Bosnia and Herzegovina remaining on the e-Visa list is compatible with a temporary exemption. The listing establishes nationality eligibility for an appropriate electronic application; the exemption can remove the need to apply for a covered entry. It should not be used as a reason to sell a visa the visitor does not need.
Select the actual passport nationality when assessing the case. A companion resident in Bosnia and Herzegovina may hold another passport and need a separate answer. Use the eligible-country directory for that document, rather than assuming a shared booking or address provides the same exemption.
For an unusual, temporary or non-national document, confirm the actual category before treating it as an ordinary national passport. Where two passports are held, identify which will be used for Azerbaijan and keep the application decision tied to that document.
If a suitable e-Visa application is needed
The ordinary ASAN electronic permission is single entry, valid for 90 days and permits up to 30 days of stay within that period. Do not transfer the exemption’s three-entry allowance to an issued single-entry visa. The permission must be read according to its own dates and limits.
For the electronic application, the passport must remain valid for at least three months after the e-Visa expires. This calculation applies to the electronic application; check passport advice for a visa-free visit separately. Check the intended visa end date rather than measuring only from a short holiday’s departure.
Use the same travel document for nationality, number, identity fields and the uploaded identification page. ASAN’s conditions make the visa invalid when the application document differs from the travel document. Settle any planned renewal before preparing the file and do not assume permission transfers automatically to a replacement.
Prepare evidence and timing without rushing the decision
Open the saved passport copy and inspect the photograph, names, number and dates for readability. ASAN states that an unreadable attached photo page leads to rejection. Correct glare, blur or missing information before official submission, and follow the form’s instructions where a field is unclear.
Prepare accurate arrival, accommodation and contact details for the application and use a monitored email address. Application acknowledgements and payment messages are not the issued permission. If someone assists, agree how you will receive the official outcome itself.
ASAN publishes Standard issue within three working days and Urgent within three hours regardless of holidays and non-working days. Applications are required at least the corresponding period before arrival. Those periods follow official submission; a private company’s preliminary enquiry and review come earlier.
