Great news for MALDIVES passport holders! As of late 2025, you can enter Azerbaijan VISA-FREE for up to 90 days. Learn about the new agreement and registration rules.

Azerbaijan Ultimate Travel Guide for MALDIVES Citizens

Are you planning to swap the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean for the mud volcanoes and futuristic skyline of Baku? For citizens of MALDIVES, visiting Azerbaijan in 2025 has become exceptionally easy. Thanks to a new historic agreement signed in September 2025, you now belong to the select group of nationalities that enjoy visa-free entry to the "Land of Fire."

Major Update: MALDIVES Citizens Are Now Visa-Free

In the past, Maldivian citizens required an e-visa. However, as of late 2025, the Maldives and Azerbaijan have signed a mutual visa waiver agreement. This means you no longer need to apply for an ASAN E-Visa or visit an embassy for short-term visits.

Core Entry Information for 2025:

  • Visa Status: Visa-Free.

  • Maximum Stay: Up to 90 days.

  • Purpose: Tourism, business meetings, or private visits.

The Mandatory 15-Day Registration Rule

Even though you no longer need a visa, you must still follow Azerbaijan's migration laws. The most important rule to remember is the registration requirement.

  • The Rule: If your stay in Azerbaijan exceeds 15 days, you are legally required to register your place of stay with the State Migration Service.

  • Pro Tip: If you are staying at a hotel, the staff will usually handle this for you at check-in. If you are staying in a private apartment (Airbnb) or with friends, your host must register you online.

  • Cost: This is a free service, but failing to register can lead to heavy fines (approx. 300-400 AZN) or deportation when you try to leave the country.

Travel Tips for MALDIVES Citizens

1. Passport Validity

Your MALDIVES passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry. Even though a visa is not required, border officials will check your passport's expiration date to ensure it covers your intended stay.

2. No More E-Visa Fees

Since the visa waiver is now active, you do not need to pay the previous e-visa fee. You simply present your passport at the border control desk at Heydar Aliyev International Airport (GYD).

3. Arrival Document

Keep a copy of your return flight ticket and hotel booking handy. While usually not requested for visa-free citizens, border guards sometimes ask for these to confirm the purpose of your visit.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. Can I enter Azerbaijan multiple times?

Yes. The visa-free agreement generally allows multiple entries, provided your total stay does not exceed 90 days within a 180-day period.

2. Can I work in Azerbaijan with this visa-free entry?

No. This exemption is for tourism, business meetings, and short visits. For employment or long-term residency, you must apply for a specific work permit or residence permit.

3. Do I need to print anything?

Since you don't have an e-visa anymore, you don't need to print a visa document. However, always carry a digital or printed copy of your State Migration Service registration if you stay longer than 15 days.
